COMPETITIO­N begins in boxing, callisthen­ics, fitness challenge and clay target shooting today. The 2018 edition of the Pan Pacific Masters Games is the largest ever with 16,000 participan­ts across 42 sports. The competitio­n, now in its seventh day, continues until Sunday. Some highlights today:

Tenpin bowling

Four veteran bowlers will be inducted into the Masters Games hall of fame. Games ambassador­s Pat Carroll and Benita Willis will attend.

The youngest participan­t at the Games is Zac O’Connell, 18, of Melbourne, while the oldest is 93-year-old Don Robertson. Zac and Don will contest the same heat – heat one – in the 50m backstroke at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Southport, today. In 2003, Gold Coast’s Jane Solomon became the 143rd person to swim the 32km English Channel. Jane will compete in swimming and the 5km ocean swim at the Pan Pacific Masters Games. Her first race is the 50m backstroke. Heats start at 11.10am with Jane in heat 18 of 23.

Buenos Aries-based Grupo Geba Argentina, who have won two out of three matches so far, will play SR Legends (Vic) at Nerang today. 9am on field NRG3. Field NRG3, Nerang Soccer Club, Glennon Park, Nerang
