CALLISTER’S DAY ENDS ON A HIGH

-

NICK Callister’s event could have gone a whole lot worse on the opening day of the Port Stephens Pro in NSW.

On a windy opening day at Birubi Beach, the Burleigh youngster claimed scalps for the goofy-footers, in turn nailing a Round 2 heat win.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though, with Callister drifting down the beach a substantial distance and was fortunate to find a handful of punchy lefts in the process.

Callister was duly rewarded with a solid 13.97 two-wave heat total.

“I got totally lost out there and I ended up way down the beach and couldn’t paddle back up,” he said.

“The jet ski came down and told me I was way out of the area but I couldn’t get back there as my arms were worn out.

“I tried to focus on catching those double-up waves as you could see them pretty easily when they come through, but they were hard to find.”

The Pro continues today and finishes Tuesday.
