TODAY’S MUST-SEE EVENTS

The eighth day involves 24 sports. They are: track and field, target archery, athletics (distance running), baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, callisthen­ics, cricket (super 8s), fitness challenge, football, hockey, indoor netball, lawn bowls, league, sailing, shooting (clay target), softball, squash, swimming, tennis, tenpin and touch.

FITNESS CHALLENGE

Games ambassador Andrew “Reidy’’ Reid – best known for saving lives on TV show Bondi Rescue – will participat­e in the 2km row and 2km run fitness challenge at 12.25pm on the fields opposite the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium. He lines up with a partner who won the right to team up via a social media competitio­n.

BOXING

TV’s Mentor Mark Bouris has former world champion Jeff Fenech in his corner tonight at the Kirra Sports Club. Bouris is in action in session three about 9.30pm. That’s scheduled to be the second last bout of the evening. The Fenech-trained boxer will be competing for an Australian Masters title.

TRACK AND FIELD

Starting today at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre, the women’s 30-44 hammer throw is first up at 9am. The first track event is the men’s 30-59 5000m race walk. The day’s competitio­n concludes at 4.15pm with the women’s 5000m run.

ARCHERY

The first of two days of target archery takes place at the Gold Coast Archery Club at Golden Valley Road, Tallebudge­ra Valley. Events run from 8am to 5pm. The program features freestyle compound, freestyle recurve, longbow, barebow recurve and barebow compound.
