BALI NINE’S LAWRENCE HOME IN NEWCASTLE
RENAE Lawrence has arrived home in Newcastle to dramatic scenes as she dodged the baggage carousel and ran through the airport to a waiting car.
The Bali Nine drugsmuggler arrived on a connecting flight from Brisbane and walked down the steps of the plane accompanied by her mother and stepbrother about midday yesterday.
The 41-year-old was greeted by dozens of reporters and dashed to a waiting white SUV parked in front of the arrivals hall.
Once inside the vehicle, she covered her head with a blue towel and used other towels to cover the windows of the car.
Lawrence sat inside the car, head covered, between her mother and stepbrother, as they waited for their baggage to be delivered.
Just hours earlier an overwhelmed Lawrence landed in Brisbane after almost 14 years behind bars in Bali, making no comment and looking lost as she tried to find a bus.
She made no comment as she walked through Brisbane International Airport, although she was heard to mutter something quietly in Indonesian.
Her mother, Beverley Waterman, said: “We don’t want to comment. Please, just leave us.”
But any homecoming celebrations could be shortlived with NSW Police waiting to charge Lawrence over an alleged high-speed pursuit back in 2005.
