Cav’s to rise again

- QUENTIN TOD

LANDMARK Labrador restaurant Cav’s Steakhouse will be razed by April to make way for a tower that has been on the slow burner for more than two years.

A new restaurant, Cav’s Emporium, will be established at the base of the aparment tower, Inspire, and is expected to be trading by mid-2020.

Inspire is now going ahead after Cav’s owner Richard Cavill secured development help. He has engaged the Sydney-based IPG group to arrange funding, deliver the building and sell the apartments.

Nick Malloch, the IPG managing director, yesterday said Gold Coast construction company CMD would build Inspire.

“We’ve already put a lot of work into the project and that’s included refining the design and finishes.

“Cav’s is an institution and we want to deliver on Richard’s vision for the site.”

Mr Malloch said 20 of Inspire’s 79 apartments were sold with another 20 sales dependent on a start to the tower being confirmed.

Cav’s Emporium will be included in a retail and commercial area that will include a café, medical centre, chemist and pathology group.

Inspire was expected to be under way by early 2017. Reticence by the major banks over lending on Gold Coast towers meant Mr Cavill was unable to fund his project.

A launch of Cav’s Emporium and a preview of Inspire is to be held at Cav’s Frank St site on Thursday.
