PGA is staying putt on Coast
ROYAL Pines will host the Australian PGA Championship for a seventh time next year after a new deal struck by the sport’s powerbrokers.
The course’s management and the PGA of Australia have confirmed they have penned a new deal that will ensure the prestigious event remains on the Gold Coast in 2019.
“Since moving to the Gold Coast (in 2013) we have found a wonderful host venue in RACV Royal Pines Resort and we look forward to working with them to host the Australian PGA Championship again in 2019,” PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman said.
“The commitment from RACV to Australian golf, particularly in Queensland and Victoria has been far reaching … and their shared vision for the Australian PGA Championship and the golf course should be highly commended.
“What we have been able to achieve with the Greg Norman Medal, MyGolf Kids Day, Soniq Million Dollar Hole and now the Oakley Gold Coast Beach Club, all with the support of RACV, has taken the Australian PGA Championship to a new level of fan entertainment.”
The tournament was previously held at Coolum between 2002 and 2012 before shifting to Royal Pines in 2013.
It led to a multimillion-dollar redesign of the course, led by Graham Marsh in 2015.
The 2018 Australian PGA Championship at Royal Pines begins next Thursday.
