GOLD Coast singing sensation Amy Shark has capped off a monster year by taking home three ARIA awards last niight – just two years after breaking into the music industry following a decade of rejections..

AN emotionall­y overwhelme­d Amy Shark capped a monster year with a shark attack on the 2018 ARIA Awards.

Her Love Monster debut album claimed awards for Apple Music Album of the Year, Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release – a phenomenal achievemen­t after being rejected by the Australian music industry for a decade before launching on the global pop scene with her Adore single.

The Gold Coast pop innovator, who won the Producer of the Year ARIA earlier this year, wowed the Sydney crowd with her performanc­e of her doubleplat­inum smash I Said Hi, the song dedicated to all those in the industry who failed to see her potential before she was finally signed just two years ago.

She also joined host Keith Urban to sing his hit The Fighter, cheered on by the country superstar’s wife Nicole Kidman, who added a touch of Hollywood glamour to last night’s proceeding­s at The Star.

Homegrown pop rockers 5 Seconds of Summer, whose single Youngblood has been one of the biggest hits on the planet this year with more than half a billion streams, picked up three awards including Best Group and the publicly voted Best Australian Live Act and Apple Music Song of the Year.

There were tears and standing ovations when the late indigenous national treasure Gurrumul, who lost his battle against kidney disease last year aged just 46, was named Best Male Artist and picked up Best Independen­t Release for his posthumous final album.
