Bonnie earns hoops honour

- with Joel McInnes

Last week Seahawks coach Bonnie Illingworth was nominated as the Queensland representative for the National Aussie Hoops Coach of the Year Award.

The nomination recognises Bonnie’s strong contribution to her association in 2018.

This year Bonnie (right) has conducted Aussie Hoops programs at: Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium, Saint Stephens College, Helensvale State High School, Coomera Anglican College, Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, Kings Christian College Pimpama and Ormeau State School.

She has also been incredibly active in the delivery of other school basketball programs on behalf of Seahawks – as well as regular club and rep coaching duties.

Bonnie has been the face of the new “This Girl Hoops” program for Seahawks in which she has worked tirelessly to launch the program with the view to develop the next generation of junior girls.

Congratulations Bonnie.

OUR GOLDEN AGE

A reporter this week asked whether Matthew Dellavedova’s lack of NBA playing time would impact his selection in the Australian team in the upcoming World Cup.

Australian head coach Andre Lemanis stated Delly has a body of work with the Boomers already so he’s someone who absolutely loves playing for Australia and is 100 per cent committed.

The depth of the Aussie squad is amazing and the thought of this question being asked would have been ludicrous even four years ago.

This is a golden age of Aussie basketball and Delly has been an amazing servant to the team and will play no doubt.

However, starting the team will be a tough ask with Australia more than likely starting with Ben Simmons at point.
