Jordan still in range despite setback

- TOM BOSWELL

TWEED golfer Damien Jordan remains within reach of the lead at the Australian PGA Championship despite a finalhole setback.

The Coolangatta Tweed Golf Club member was on track to card a five-under par round that would have put him in the lead going into the clubhouse early in the day.

Jordan made three birdies on the front nine and did the same on the par-4 11th and par-5 12th to go into the final hole at five-under par.

But the 37-year-old came undone due to some wayward putting to miss out on taking advantage of his good form.

I played solid all day,” Jordan said. “It was really hard putting on those greens out there, so you’ve just got to try to make the most you can and not give them back.

“I made a few good putts out there but it’s easy to give them back.”

Jordan has finished in the top five six times in the past two years on the Australasian PGA Tour, with a win at the 2017 Victoria Open at the top of his achievements through that period.

Jordan said he felt like his game was good enough to take him to the next level.

“Definitely, definitely. I feel confident in my game, it just comes down to putting at the end of the day and make the most of the opportunities you get,” he said.

Jordan isn’t in any short supply of fans out on the course with many of his local club mates on hand to cheer him on.

“I have heaps of family and friends out there this week,” Jordan said.

“It’s good to be home playing 20 minutes from home.”
