Chasing $100m dream

Huge lotto jackpot a lifechanger

A TRIP around the world, a near million-dollar car and a palatial mansion are out of reach for most Gold Coast punters, but a $100 million windfall could change it all.

Thousands of local lotto hopefuls are expected to have a dabble at winning the jackpot in tonight’s Powerball draw, as office workers, mechanics and builders alike, all daydream about what they could drop that cash on.

The Bulletin investigated just what you could buy with that money here on the Coast and the list is eye watering.

With a measly 12 carports, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, you could buy, what is currently, the Coast’s most expensive home – the lavish 15 Southern Cross Drive at Surfers Paradise, for $13.8 million.

To go with one of those carports, you’ll need the most expensive car for sale at Frizelle’s Automotive Robina, a Rolls Royce Dawn convertible, for $889,000.

Or you could go ahead and buy yourself a mega yacht, a private jet and even a helicopter to beat the traffic.

And you’ll need a holiday after all the moving stress and the eventual need to get away from the long-lost cousins that will come out of the woodwork. Why not jump on a plane to Geneva and stay at the Royal Penthouse Suite at the Hotel President Wilson, for $100,000 a night? Chump change for the country’s newest multi-millionaire.

For Aroha O’Brien, who bought into a syndicate with 36 colleagues, a win would be all about classic cars.

“A huge cheque would make a such a difference to our lives,” she said.

“My first purchase would be a 1969 black Ford Mustang, a home on the water and to set a wedding date. Can’t get better than that.”

The 37 hopeful winners bought in for $5 each and are purchasing $185 worth of tickets at different agencies around the Coast.

If you’re wondering where you’re most likely to hit the jackpot, Southport is the luckiest place to buy a ticket, selling four division one winning entries at a total of $2,984,776.51.

Burleigh Heads, Mermaid Waters, Chevron Island, Elanora and Palm Beach have also sold division one winners.
