Couple slashed with knife: Police

SEVEN people have been charged after a violent assault and robbery at Broadbeach during which a couple was slashed with a knife, police allege.

Police on Saturday night charged five men and two youths over the alleged attack they say happened on January 8 on Broadbeach Blvd.

The five men, all aged 18 and from Victoria, and the youths, 17, were all charged with one count each of assault occasionin­g bodily harm and stealing.

Police will allege three men approached a man and woman sitting on a bench and a brief altercatio­n followed.

Another, more violent, confrontat­ion is alleged to have occurred soon after when a group of seven males approached the couple knife was produced.

During the incident, police said, the woman received cuts to her foot while the man was treated for a laceration to his hands.

Police will allege the woman’s handbag was stolen by the group, who fled the scene on foot.
