Elderly man twice limit

A TEENAGER was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after allegedly being hit by an elderly man accused of driving while more than two times the legal blood alcohol limit.

Police said the 16-year-old youth was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a car on Ferny Ave at a busy Surfers Paradise intersecti­on at about 9.15pm on Friday.

A 79-year-old was breath tested and later allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.117 at the Surfers Paradise Police Station.

The Victorian man is due to appear in court on March 20.
