JOCKEY PREDICTS BRIGHT FUTURE FOR NEW COAST CONQUEROR

- CONNOR O’BRIEN connor.obrien@news.com.au

GOLD Coast jockey Ryan Plumb believes in-form gelding Boom Boy has more in the tank and can match it with a stronger field after breezing to victory at Aquis Park on Saturday. Trained by Tony Gollan, the four-yearold has not placed lower than third in six starts since November.

Race 2 at Aquis Park, the $21,000 Class 2 Handicap (1200m), marked the galloper’s second win in that period and Plumb, on his first chance aboard Boom Boy, could see exactly why the results have been coming.

“He got to the front very easily,” said the 29-year-old.

“When he got there, he switched off a little bit … he just does enough every time so I’d imagine in a better quality race he’d still be competitive because he gets to the front easy enough in these races.”

Plumb then backed that success up with another triumph the very next race at Aquis Park, riding San Pierre to a maiden win in the $21,000 Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap (1300m).

Making the moment all the more special was the fact the three-year-old gelding is trained by his sister, Angela.

“And our family friends own it so it was a fantastic result,” Plumb added.

“It played out very different to what we had planned before the race.

“The plan was to ride in quiet early because in his two previous starts (for finishes of 11th and eighth) he had gotten back in his races, and he jumped the barriers really, really well so I just took him to the front and to his credit, he held on.

“So the plans changed as soon as the barriers opened but Angie puts enough trust in me to make those decisions … that’s probably what won him the race actually.”
