Bond prof missed by students

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

BOND University medical students are sending their best wishes to a popular professor who is still in a critical condition after nearly drowning.

Prof Christopher Del Mar remained at Gold Coast University Hospital yesterday after being pulled unconscious from Miami surf and resuscitated at the weekend.

Paramedics were called at 5.43am on Sunday when a member of the public rescued Prof Del Mar before alerting off-duty lifesavers who performed CPR.

His students told the Bulletin he was a well-respected lecturer who had made their studies easier.

“Everyone understood what was being taught and he simplified everything to the best of his abilities,” one student said.

“Professor Del Mar was one of the most effective lecturers our cohort has encountered.

“His lectures are intelligent, easy to understand and he provides answers for students with patience,” the student said.

The students say Prof Del Mar is well regarded by all in the cohort and all who spoke to the Bulletin wish him a speedy recovery.

“Professor Del Mar has been an invaluable asset to our medical cohort. His name is known across the cohort to provide succinct, knowledgeable lectures, while simultaneously ensuring everyone understands and enjoys his delivery,” another student said.

In between lecturing the avid surfer still practises as a GP at Robina Medical Centre’s Easy T practice.
