YOUNG’S BAN CUT AS ROAR SIGN UP WITH MATES
BRISBANE Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young has had his three-match suspension for “serious foul play” cut by one game.
Young last night in Sydney fronted Football Federation Australia’s independent disciplinary and ethics committee, who heard the custodian’s appeal against the three-game ban slapped on him after he was sent off for knocking down Adelaide United star Craig Goodwin in the Reds’ 4-3 win on February 2.
Young served the mandatory one-game ban last Friday when the Roar beat Sydney FC 2-1, and had hoped to have the final two matches of the suspension quashed. While he wasn’t successful in the ban being reduced to just one match, it was cut to two games.
It means Young will miss the Roar’s clash against the Glory in Perth on Saturday night but be available for Brisbane’s match on Friday week against Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
THE Roar yesterday announced Mates4Mates as their charity partner for Brisbane’s Anzac Day clash against Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium.
Mates4Mates is a not-forprofit organisation providing life-changing support and rehabilitation services for current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members who have physical or psychological injuries.
It’s a cause close to Roar defender Luke DeVere’s heart, with his grandfather Ray DeVere having served in the Vietnam War.
“It’s something that’s always on my mind and it’s a great opportunity for people to come out and not only support the team, but support a great cause like Mates4Mates and take time for those that have given a lot for this country,” he said.
