Lacey Lynx Pack on track for city break
MATT Dunn has no doubt emerging stayer Lacey Lynx Pack is ready to step up to 2200m in Brisbane after a gutsy win at the Gold Coast.
Timing will be the biggest thing for the Murwillumbah trainer who will let the fouryear-old mare’s recovery from her latest win dictate whether she goes for a spell or pushing on to town.
“She is getting to the pointy end of her preparation so she might have a break. I’m not sure yet,” Dunn said.
“She has won her last couple and racing really well. I’m sure she is up to Saturday grade once she gets to 2200m but whether its this prep or she goes for a break we will wait and see.”
Lacey Lynx Pack won Saturday’s Class 2 Handicap (1800m) at Aquis Park, the same track she won her maiden race at last May before unsuccessful runs at Doomben (seventh) and Rosehill (13th) in a Highway Handicap as she built her distance.
Dunn said Lacey Lynx Pack wouldn’t go back to the Highway races in NSW that didn’t carry enough distance as he turns his attention towards conquering Brisbane.
“She stays really good. She made three runs of it (on Saturday) because the race was run a bit inconsistently and she had to adjust.
“There are signs of a decent stayer there and when you can stop, start three times and still finish that well then is shows some quality.
“She is starting to get to her right distance. She will probably go on to run 2000m and beyond. We have been nice and gentle with her and looked after her the whole way through. She is ready to step up now and head back to the city.”
