Knights click to slay Redlands

-

GOLD Coast Knights coach Grae Piddick says the team’s combinations are starting to click as they play with the promise of further improvement following a thumping win over Redlands United.

Coming off victories against Western Pride and SWQ Thunder, the Knights flexed their muscle with an 8-0 triumph over Redlands at the Cleveland Showgrounds on Friday.

Such was Gold Coast’s dominance, Piddick was able to rest some players while the Knights continue to get better each game in an ominous warning for rivals.

“We played well in front of goal and created a lot of opportunities,” Piddick said.

“It was good to see some of the boys get some confidence on the scoresheet.

“We rotated the squad and gave some players some rest. It was important for us to get some minutes in the legs from a squad point of view so it was pleasing.”

“It’s pleasing to see the performances get better each week and the combinations starting to click. We have a lot of work still to do but we are heading in the right direction.”

The visitors opened the scoring on the half-hour mark through Nick Panetta before man-of-the-match Jayden Prasad struck twice to deliver a 3-0 halftime lead.

The carnage continued three minutes into the second half when Sam Smith found the net, with Prasad completing his hat-trick from the spot shortly after.

Coming off the bench, Max Brown then bagged a double before Smith put the icing on the cake with a penalty in the dying stages.

Entering the Round 4 fixture in fourth place, the Knights will now turn their attention to the looming visit from Sunshine Coast at Carrara on Saturday night.
