ELI READY TO ROAR AGAIN WITH NEW CLUB

-

FORMER Socceroos striker Eli Babalj has been invited to trial with Brisbane Roar.

Babalj, who made two appearances for Australia in 2012, will start training with the Roar tomorrow in the hope of earning a deal for the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old forward’s most recent club was Indian Super League outfit ATK.

Babalj debuted in the ALeague at the age of only 18 for the club then known as Melbourne Heart before signing for Serbian heavyweights Red Star Belgrade in 2012.

He returned to the Heart the following year before leaving for Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

From there Babalj had loan spells with PEC Zwolle and Adelaide United. While playing for Adelaide, Babalj ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against the Roar at Suncorp Stadium in January 2016.

He returned to action for the Reds the following year, but was soon on the move again, this time to Czech club Mlada Boleslav.

After a period of inactivity, he joined ATK in November, making three appearances off the bench.

Due to a split round in the A-League, the Roar aren’t back in action until Friday week, when they host Western Sydney Wanderers at Suncorp Stadium.

The ninth-placed Roar will be chasing back-to-back wins after beating cellar dwellers Central Coast Mariners 5-3 in Gosford on Friday night.
