Man arrested after road-rage attack

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

A MAN allegedly threatened another driver with a machete and wooden baton and then ran into a man in his van in a shocking road rage attack in Byron Bay on Saturday.

The driver was left with cuts to his face.

Two men were travelling on the Pacific Motorway at EwMORE ingsdale about 9.40pm on Saturday when a black van turned in front of them, forcing them to take “evasive action”.

The van continued into Byron Bay with the two men following it, before stopping in Scott St.

The van driver then allegedly got out of the van armed with a wooden baton and a machete and smashed the driver’s side window, leaving the driver with cuts to his face.

The driver and his passenger drove forward and stopped about 20m down the street and got out of their vehicle.

It is alleged that as the accused drove his van away it hit one of the men.

He was later taken to the Tweed Hospital with a dislocated pelvis.

A 33-year-old man struggled with police when he was arrested in Byron Bay. A search of the man’s van allegedly found a large knife and a quantity of prohibited drugs.

He was charged with offences including resisting police and drug possession.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Tweed Heads Local Court today.
