Titans rapt in mantra

- TRAVIS MEYN

IMMORTAL Mal Meninga has revealed his grand vision for the Titans, unveiling a new club mantra he believes will turn the Gold Coast into an NRL force.

Meninga used last night’s season launch at The Star Gold Coast to make a stirring speech to 400 guests and deliver his “RAPT” initiative.

Much like the RISE mantra he created for the Kangaroos Test team, Meninga has devised a catchcry he hopes will define the Titans’ culture.

The RAPT mantra stands for Resilient, Accountable, Proud and Trustworthy while the Kangaroos RISE code is for Respect, Inspire, Selfless and Excellence.

The RAPT slogan will be plastered across the Titans’ dressing rooms and used as a rallying cry by the players during games.

Meninga, the Titans’ head of performance and culture, said the Gold Coast could blossom into a powerhouse club.

“The ingredients for a truly great club already exist here at the Titans,” he said.

“My job is to bring those ingredients together and have everyone in the organisation, our sponsors, members and supporters understand what it is that we stand for and what we are trying to achieve.

“When I first arrived at the Titans, the first thing that struck me was the quality of the people involved.

“Everyone here, from the owners, chairman and board members down are dedicated to making the Titans a club that our community is proud of.

“As part of my research into what makes the club tick, I found some key attributes that were shared through the club – resilience, accountability, pride and trust. The RAPT philosophy was born from that.

“Rapt seemed like such a fitting word. Each letter represents one of our key values, but it is also about how we want people to feel about the club.

“We are all rapt to be Titans, and we want our sponsors and supporters to feel rapt about being Titans as well.”

Meninga has commissioned a study into the history of rugby league on the Gold Coast to help connect the Titans to their past.

The Titans have struggled for sustained success since entering the NRL in 2007.

Gold Coast host Canberra on Sunday at Cbus Super Stadium in Round 1 of the NRL.
