Tigerstix’s vengeance is dished up red hot

- ELIZA REILLY

LABRADOR have kicked off their Brisbane Hockey League season in style, defeating Pine Rivers St Andrews at home 3-1.

After being bundled out of finals last year by St Andrews, the Tigerstix didn’t have to wait long for revenge.

All three of Labrador’s goals came in the second half as the team welcomed back Brazilian Olympian Adam Imer, who was forced to miss last season due to the points cap.

Labrador also won their division two Brisbane Hockey League game against St Andrews 1-0.

Next week the Tigerstix face the University of Queensland away in Brisbane.

In the local league, the Griffith Roosters women started their Division 1 season with a bang, defeating Burleigh 4-0.

In the other game, Labrador were up 1-0 in the first quarter though rain forced the game to be abandoned and rescheduled for next Monday.

Poor weather also forced the Roosters and Capri men’s Division 1 game to be abandoned with the teams sitting one goal apiece.

Kingscliff announced themselves as premiership contenders with a 9-2 win over Casuarina.

Andy Ridgewell was named man of the match after bagging four goals.

Burleigh defeated Labrador 4-0.

Louis Hassum opened scoring in the second quarter with a goal from a penalty corner.

Mudgeeraba had the bye in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
