Assistance available for those affected by tragedy

-

WE understand that in an age of 24-hour news and social media coverage, we are often surrounded with information about traumatic events. Even if we aren’t directly involved, it’s normal to feel upset or vulnerable following a tragedy.

For local residents who are finding it a challenging time, support is available, as we fund a range of psychological services for the Gold Coast community.

The NewAccess program helps people with mild levels of anxiety and/or depression to cope with day-to-day pressures.

It’s free, confidential and available to anyone over 16 years of age. It has been developed by beyondblue, funded by the Gold Coast Primary Health Network. Simply call 1800 010 630 to find out more.

Gold Coast Primary Health Network also funds Headspace Southport, who provide tailored mental health support to 12-25year-olds. Headspace can be contacted on (07) 5509 5900.

We also fund short-term psychological support for people who are financially disadvantaged with moderate mental health conditions.

This includes children aged 0-12, the culturally and linguistically diverse, LGBTIQAP+ and A&TSI communities, women experiencing perinatal depression, people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and people at risk of self-harm. You will need to see your doctor for a referral into this service.

Additional information about these and other programs is available at the www.healthygc.com.au website. MATT CARRODUS, CEO, GOLD COAST PRIMARY HEALTH NETWORK
