Picture-perfect pups are Georgia’s focus

- ALISTER THOMSON

A GOLD Coaster has come up with the paw-fect way for dog owners to show off their freshly groomed fur babies.

Georgia Furniss opened The Dog House in Palm Beach last August, complete with a photo booth for Instaworthy pictures to be taken when the grooming is done.

The backdrop for the happy pooches includes astro turf, a white picket fence and genuine New York City fire hydrant.

Ms Furniss said the set was altered regularly to reflect different times of the year such as Valentine’s Day, Australia Day, Melbourne Cup, Halloween and Christmas.

“The set is designed to look like the backyard, hence the business name The Dog House,” she said.

“It makes people happy when they walk in.

“The photos are more for our social media.

“A lot of people take photos to post on their social media when the dog has been groomed.”

Ms Furniss left school and opted to work as a dog groomer for three years rather than attend university or TAFE.

She then made the decision to launch her own business.

“I was always worried my parents would be disappointed,” she said.

“But my mum said it is not just about schooling, it is about where you see yourself in life.

“I’m just lucky that as a 16year-old I found what I wanted to do.”

Ms Furniss said business has slowly built up to the point where she needed to hire full-time staff.

She has serviced 300 clients since starting the salon more than six months ago.

Services include a full scissor clip, include a warm bath with two washes and complimentary nail clip, and demoult for double-coated dog breeds.

Ms Furniss said the salon catered for all dog breeds.

She said despite heavy competition from mobile dog groomers, her salon offered a premium service.

“We can groom multiple dogs at a time and take all the time we need with each dog.”

She also believes the industry offers a sound future for workers.

“Grooming is a key industry where we do not have to compete with technology,” she said.

“I do not have to worry about robots taking over.

“There always going to be a need for humans to do it.”
