Reformed ex-bikie a free man

-

A FORMER bikie boss broke down after he was granted a suspended jail sentence for dealing cocaine as part of a syndicate headed by NRL bad boy John Touma.

Brent Luke Simpson, 41, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to seven counts of supplying cocaine in 2014.

Simpson was not charged until last year but in that time he had already turned over a new leaf, giving up drugs and starting a charity, Heavy Hiterz, which helps ex-criminals with mental health issues.

The former Bandidos sergeant-at-arms was caught up in the NRL cocaine scandal where a number of high-profile players were caught, including code-hopper Karmichael Hunt who later pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine.

Simpson was caught supplying cocaine seven times after police intercepted text messages with Touma.

“Ha ha … nah all good for the price. Thank you very much, captain,” Simpson wrote in one text.

The court was told another text message said: “Game over mate … well out of my price range, (expletive) spewing.”

Simpson made a small amount of money but was also supplying the cocaine for himself. Judge Julie Dick sentenced him to three years in prison to be suspended for five years.

“I have seldom seen such remarkable rehabilitation,” she said.

After the sentence was handed down, Simpson broke down in relief. He was still emotional when he spoke outside the courthouse.

“I have carried such a weight on my shoulders,” he said.

“I had three little children who I dropped off at school this morning saying, ‘see you this afternoon, dad’ and in my heart I wasn’t sure if I would actually get there to pick them up.”

Simpson has spent the past few years riding his bike across the country for charity.

He is regularly drug tested for his work and has not returned a single positive test.
