BRINGING A LITTLE LAS VEGAS FLARE TO BROADBEACH

- RYAN KEEN ryan.keen@news.com.au

THIS is the first render showing what a nightclub supremo and performance art promoter have dreamt up for a “next-level” Gold Coast venue.

Nightclub veteran Tony Rigas and Aerial Angels Australia founder Sue Porrett, who have joined forces to create a Las Vegas-style cabaret bar for Broadbeach, will give the first taste of their plans today.

The pair, who have signed a 10-year lease for the space previously occupied by East nightclub – as revealed in last month’s Bulletin – aim to breathe new life into the Surf Parade corner.

They were being tightlipped ahead of their official launch this morning when the venue name, more detailed renderings and a 3D model are unveiled.

But the pair are promising to transform the site into a “world-class theatre and entertainment destination”.

The venue is on track for opening in the middle of the year and an international hunt for performers is under way.

Ms Porrett, based in Burleigh, founded the globetrotting Aerial Angels and has a background in aerial performance and circus-style entertainment.

Mr Rigas, a Glitter Strip identity, was formerly involved with East nightclub before James Tweddell took over as sole owner.

Mr Rigas has had a hand in a long list of nightclub operations including Shooters, Quest Lounge Bar which became East, Mybar, Opium and Oriental Whiskey. He was also a consultant to Love Nightlife before it was sold last year.

In February, Mr Rigas said his new venue with Ms Porrett would “be an eclectic playground bringing entertainment with Las Vegas flair to Broadbeach”.
