New venue a touch of Las Vegas

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

OWNERS of a new entertainment venue coming to the Coast have promised their business will “put Broadbeach back on the map”.

Co-owners Tony Rigas and Sue Porrett yesterday unveiled their plans for new cabaret theatre and performance space The Pink Flamingo.

The new venue will feature a 20-metre custom LED screen as a backdrop to its four-metre stage, as well as two bars.

Rendered images show an upstairs area dubbed “The Birdcage”, which offers more viewing areas as well as private rooms for guests.

But Ms Porrett insists The Pink Flamingo isn’t concerned with competing against venues in neighbouring Surfers Paradise.

“This is definitely not a nightclub, it’s far from it, it’s an incredible entertainment destination,” she said.

“So far it’s been fantastic (feedback), it’s been really positive and we’re bringing Broadbeach back.”

Development is already under way for the theatre on the corner of Surf Pde and Victoria Ave in Broadbeach.

The Pink Flamingo is set to open by mid-year.

Though the line-up of performers has yet to be announced, Ms Porrett said their headline act had been pulled “straight from the Las Vegas strip”.

“There’ll be incredible daredevils, acrobats and performers all put into a gorgeous, spectacular show the Gold Coast has never seen,” she said.

“The construction stage has started ... it should be completed mid-year. Lots of work has been done already. This has been 12 months in the making.”

Each show will run from Thursday to Saturday night for a year before a new group of performers is cast.

Mr Rigas, who has previously owned a number of top Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach nightclubs, said this is the “most exciting” venue he has worked on yet.

“We’re doing something new, we’re doing something very Vegas-y and putting the entertainment back into Broadbeach,” he said. “In hospitality, a well-considered (and) designed venue is a sign of respect. I’m proud to say I have always created trends and never followed them.

“I believe people should be entertained, truly entertained, and that’s our job, not the job of the guest.”
