HURRICANES OUT OF PUFF BUT BREWING FOR ‘20

ALBERTON Ormeau have vowed to return bigger and better next season after their dreams of a Kookaburra Cup fairytale came undone at the final hurdle.

Seeking to rise from wooden spooners to premiers in the space of one season, the Hurricanes were left to rue a lack of runs in yesterday’s six-wicket grand final loss to Broadbeach Robina.

But having already won the Twenty20 title and defied all pre-season expectations, captain Corey Galloway said the bitter taste of finals defeat would only aid their quest to go one better in 2019-20.

“I’m proud of all the guys from where we come from last year,” said Galloway, who took 1-27 as Broadbeach chased down 119 with six wickets to spare.

“It was a pretty hard year (last year) and to turn it around in one year and win the Twenty20 comp and fall one game short (of the premiership), it’s a pretty good year. It always hurts you (to lose) but it’s good for next year.

“It will give us another reason to get there and go one better.”

With his side posting just 118 with the bat as Tom Scriven bagged 7-43, Galloway conceded the Cats were simply too good when it mattered.

“I don’t think we batted strong enough. Scoring 120 is not really going to be enough on that sort of wicket,” he said.

“Tom from Broadbeach bowled a very good corridor and we just fell into the trap. We’ve got to give a lot of credit to him, he made us play.

“You take him out and it would be a different story. But all credit to Broadbeach, they outplayed us and had a lot of big-game players.”
