GLOBE-TROTTING DJ Brooklyn will take on one of the biggest names in Australian music, Amy Shark, at this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards.

Brooklyn (pictured) said she was “surprised” to be named a finalist for Gold Coast Artist of the Year alongside the likes of Shark and Casey Barnes.

“SURPRISED” DJ Brooklyn says being named a Gold Coast Music Awards finalist with luminaries Amy Shark and Casey Barnes is a big honour.

The globe-trotting DJ (pictured above) – in the running for Gold Coast Artist of the Year – was one of 31 finalists announced across eight categories yesterday with the awards to be presented on May 2.

“I was surprised I was named a finalist and feel so honoured to be up against such a diverse mix of talented artists,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to the event to celebrate the music scene here on the GC and meet other artists.

“I feel like the Gold Coast is such an amazing supportive place for musically creative talent.”

Golden girl Shark and country music favourite Barnes led nominations, each nabbing four.

Barnes was “over the moon” to be nominated while Shark was “incredibly honoured” to be recognised in her hometown.

Lesser-known artists also got nods, including emerging talent San Mei, Mass Sky Raid and harpist ELSKA.

ELSKA, who uses a loop pedal with her harp, plays at the National Folk Festival in Canberra this month.

It is the first time she has been nominated and said it was important recognition.

“It’s important for creatives to have a platform where creativity is recognised as a real job.”
