WINNERS
■ Boom Chicka Boom (Race 1) Boom Chicka Boom was backed as if he was unbeatable and that proved to be the case in the opening race. Luke Dittman took him straight to the front and put the race to bed very quickly when he was asked for an extra effort at the top of the straight.
■ Cruze (Race 4)
Cruze led from start to finish to deliver punters a much-needed victory. He had no trouble finding the run early and Taylor Williams had him in a lovely rhythm. His rivals were off the bit a long way from home and he never looked like getting beaten.
■ Hacksaw Ridge (Race 8) Leaders were tough to run down at the Gold Coast and that was the case with Hacksaw Ridge. He did do a fair amount of work to find the front, but it was still a winning move and the stepup to 1400m was not an issue.
LOSERS
■ Ronnie (Race 2)
Mel Eggleston still came away with the victory with Miracle Worker, but that would not have made punters who backed Ronnie feel any better. Ronnie was backed into $1.70 with Ladbrokes and had every possible chance but simply could not get past his stablemate in the final stages of the race.
■ Lashoni (Race 3)
The horror show continued for punters as Lashoni became the second odds-on favourite to be beaten in as many races. The tough run told on her late and Million finished over the top.
■ Home Scene (Race 6)
It was an enormous day for Chris Waller at Royal Randwick, but he didn’t have a great deal of luck at the Gold Coast. There was a fair amount of money for Home Scene and he didn’t really fire a shot. Still chasing a maiden race win and has now been beaten as favourite on four occasions.
NEXT TIME
■ Without Risk (Race 7)
She was unable to run down Guide, but there was a lot to like about the performance of Without Risk. It took her a while to wind up, but he kept on finding the line and she ran the best closing sectionals in the race. Tough to beat when stepping up to 1600m.
