BUILDING scoreboard pressure will be Broadbeach’s focus going forward after nabbing what coach Beau Zorko described as a one-point QAFL win “full of character” .

A behind by Josh Searle with 30 seconds left secured Broadbeach an 8.19 (67) to 9.12 (66) win over Mt Gravatt at Subaru Oval on Saturday in what was their first win of the season following a Round 1 loss to premiers

“It was a tight game. We were our own worst enemy after halftime,” Zorko said.

“Our third quarter was pretty poor but to the group’s credit they showed character and some great fight. It’s nice to put some points in the bank and get our season going.

“In the third quarter we went away from what we did so early, which was use our feet a lot more, we changed the angle of attack more and we were willing to use our hands to try and move Mt Gravatt around the ground.

“After halftime we wanted to play it straight down the line to their talls.”

Broadbeach led by 21 at halftime but trailed by 17 at the end of the third before kicking 3.9 in the last to sneak home with the win.

“We missed some easy shots. The lack of scoreboard pressure is a bit of a concern at the moment,” Zorko said.

“We seem to be doing great work up the ground but not finishing it off.

“We will put a bit more of a focus on that in the next couple of weeks. If we can put some scoreboard pressure on teams and get some reward for our effort then games like (Saturday) will certainly be very different.”

Cats player Harry Arnold suffered a corked thigh but is expected to recover in time for Broadbeach’s Round 4 game against the Western Magpies. The Cats have the bye this week.

Meanwhile, Palm Beach Currumbin beat Sandgate 24.13 (157) to 12.9 (81) and Labrador lost to Western Magpies 13.13 (91). Both have byes this week.
