IT’S TIME TO GET WITH PROGRAM AT ACADEMY

AFTER the Easter break, there are a lot of Gold Coast Academy of Sport programs coming up that both athletes and parents can get excited about.

With the focus in Australia being placed on participat­ion, inclusion and being active, programs for rugby league, basketball and the coming together of varied sports provides athletes on the Gold Coast a great opportunit­y to learn how to approach and improve performanc­e. Here are details of some upcoming programs

RUGBY LEAGUE

This program commences in July. Anyone interested should contact the program’s manager by email at programs@goldsport.com.au to submit their interest.

This program runs for a period of 12 weeks with practical and theory sessions being conducted.

FUTURE STARS

This program will commence on Friday, May 17, at the Southport Sharks.

Applicatio­ns have closed and participan­ts will be given final informatio­n this week to ensure they are aware of the program.

First session will include fitness testing to ensure that we are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the participan­ts.

The program runs until October and includes a six-month membership of the Southport Sharks gymnasium.

The Future Stars program this year includes athletes from track and field, BMX racing, hockey, football and touch football. If there are other interested athletes, please do not hesitate to contact us immediatel­y to be included.

BASKETBALL

This program commences in July and anyone interested should contact the program’s manager atprograms@goldsport.com.au to submit their interest. This program runs for a period of eight weeks with practical and theory sessions being conducted and will take place in Southport.

At the end of this program, an AWD basketball program will begin. Previous AWD programs saw a dramatic improvemen­t in athletes’ selfconfid­ence and contribute­d to the empowermen­t of people with an intellectu­al disability.
