HUNDREDS of Gold Coasters showed up to opening day of pre-polling yesterday to cast their vote in the Federal Election.

Aaron Santelises, Labor’s candidate for McPherson, greeted voters at the Robina pre-polling station and said early voting had become an important part of campaignin­g.

“It’s quite important to be here and to greet the voters and talk to them about what’s important to them for the community,” he said.

“(Pre-polling) is becoming more popular. There’s been an interestin­g crowd today and it’s been busy.

“The race has started but I like a good, fun political campaign. It’s a passion of mine to be involved in politics and serve my community so it’s been a bit stressful, but fun and exciting.”
