Woolley a mammoth loss for PBC

-

PALM Beach Currumbin’s campaign to win a thirdstraight QAFL crown has suffered a huge blow with a player coach Jess Sinclair ranks as one of the best in the league set to miss the first half of the season.

Premiership player Josh Woolley has battled throughout the season with a mysterious problem and has so far been unsighted in the opening four rounds of the year.

Scans have revealed the respected halfback is suffering osteitis pubis and won’t be due back for some time.

“He will miss around the first half of the year, which isn’t great,” Lions coach Jess Sinclair said.

“I think he went a bit hard because is an animal at training. He got some soreness when I first arrived in early February.

“We tried to monitor his loads but we didn’t get a proper diagnosis until last week.

“Josh tried to train a week or two ago and pulled up shocking. He went for scans and was diagnosed with osteitis pubis.

“It’s a huge blow for us because he is a really important player. He does it all - intercept marks and is one of the best kicks I have ever seen, and that goes for AFL and local footy.”

“He is probably one of the best players in the competition and to miss him for around half the year will hurt us.

“Having said that other guys have stood up and taken their opportunity. Angus Munro has come in and is playing some good footy for us.”

Palm Beach Currumbin have still managed to pick up where they left off in 2018 so far this season, winning their first three games by an average winning margin of 62 points.

The team will play Morningside this Saturday in the first of five-straight home games for the Lions, interrupted only by next week’s bye.

Morningside are coming off a bye.
