WHEN I was younger 40 years ago I read an article by a supposed scientist Mr Flannery about global warming, and he said that the Polar Ice was melting and the oceans and tides would be rising by about 20 feet within 20 years.

I was living on Chevron Island at the time, so I decided to move to higher ground. I did this and after 40 years I am still waiting to have oceanfront property and for the ocean and the tides to rise.

It is still the same level as it was 40 years ago. This phrase global warming has now changed to climate change. When they find that climate change is not working, what will they call it? LEO AGUGGIA I HAVE a question, why was global warming discarded and replaced with climate change? Could it be that there is no global warming?

We are to believe that they do not want any climate change and that mankind’s influence is causing the change, which will be catostrophic and destroy our planet. With that logic I ask why has the climate changed since the beginning of time eons before any influence by man?

With their thinking the planet should have never changed and dinosaurs should still be roaming the earth. Was it possible caveman fires caused the drastic changes? Doubtful, so it follows the earth has and always will change regardless of man’s influence.

Are any climate change fanatics aware that the ocean islands that are supposed to disappear have increased their land mass in size?

I will bet they will all scream it is not so. Well, check it it out.

We are spending ourselves into oblivion chasing a rainbow. NICK BELLOFF, SOUTHPORT AT last Friday’s leaders debate Bill Shorten set a new Australian record for “biggest bulls*** claim”.

Shorten said his climate policy would cost Australians “zero” but the cost of “not doing something” was unimaginably enormous.

In fact, Shorten’s climate policy would cost Australians $500 billion while the cost of “not doing something” is zero. Only brainwashed climate zombies will vote for Shorten’s Labor Union Getup Green (SLUGG) and their giant destructive economic slugs. PETER CAMPION, TOLGA I AM fed up being treated like a mushroom – kept in the dark and fed on bulls*** – by the Labor Party who continue to refuse publishment of their costings.

How can we assess issues when most politicians are self-interested and deemed untrustworthy by the general voters. Guess we will go in a different direction. GEOFF REEVE, BURLEIGH WATERS GIVE me a break. Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard at the Labor launch being thanked by Bill Shorten for their achievements.

It really is laughable. If they were so wonderful Bill, why were they both stabbed in the back by you. I would bet my last dollar that neither of them have forgiven you.

The fact that they would even turn up blows my mind. They must think the Australian people have short memories or, more likely, they are just treating us with contempt. The third option is that the Labor Party had to pay them to attend. ANNETTE GRACE, BROADBEACH WATERS INTERESTING that tourists and locals advised of scenic beauty preserved over the border in nNorthern NSW (GCB, 3/5/19)

The border is an artificial construct. Country on both sides in this magnificent region, generates a remarkable array of natural systems.

Queensland, unfortunately, has the lowest percentage of national parks in Australia, while housing some of its richest heritage.

In NSW, Wollemi National Park, approximately the size of Switzerland. forms, partly, lungs of Sydney’s vast metropolis.

Southeast Queensland has been subject to intense development, in contrast to its cross border region. Much loss has been sustained.

Nevertheless, the national parks in southeast Queensland, though a small remnant of our once was one Gondwanaland, host, in planetary terms, an extraordinary array of species, a survival storehouse the full potential of which yet is unknown.

Springbrook National Park has World Heritage Status. Scientists assert a few metres of such an area may contain more diverse species representation than kilometres of protected space elsewhere. In relative terms. however, the park is small and requires special protective monitoring and care.

The Commonwealth Government has just called for and received submissions on Australia’s Fauna Species Extinction Crisis.

However, the Commonwealth no longer gives the 50 per cent funding formerly available to acquire National Parks.

State Government has the burden. Meanwhile southeast Queensland’s huge population growth is no longer linked to parallel purchase of Regional Open Space Central Parks.

If in existence, such parks would cater for impacting recreational activities that are detrimental to the precious, remnant, irreplaceable biodiversity storehouse national parks.

Locally there has been no habitat open space purchase by council for almost eight years. Indeed sites have been sold off.

Queensland has 70 per cent representation of all Australian bird species. Our unique fauna generates tourists and enriches our lives.

Habitat protection is the responsibility of all levels of government and needs to be urgently addressed. SALLY SPAIN, WILDLIFE QUEENSLAND GOLD COAST & HINTERLAND
