A SENSATIONAL last quarter saw the South Coast Sharks men down the undefeated in last night’s Poligras Super League grand final in Brisbane.

Despite losing to the Brisbane Fury 5-2 in the qualifying match on Sunday, the Gold Coast representative hockey side managed to overcome the four-time winners of the league and claim another piece of silverware after the female side won last year.

Brisbane were the first to strike with a goal at the 10minute mark of the first quarter but the Sharks quickly replied through Jason Wilson.

Two quickfire goals had the South Coast on the back foot early in the final quarter with the score sitting at 4-3 in Brisbane’s favour but two field goals in two minutes to Wilson and captain Joe Reardon willed the Sharks to an upset.

“It’s a great feeling and probably the best game we played over the weekend so it’s nice to put it together in final when it matters most,” said Reardon.

“It was a great team performance, and everyone played really well.

“We saved our last.”

The win marks the first time the first time a Sharks male side has won the Super League final after Brisbane emerged victorious in all three of the past tournaments. best until

Wilson was named player of the match with his three-goal effort while Blake Wotherspoon, younger brother of Kookaburra Dylan, was player of the tournament.

The South Coast Sharks women finished fourth overall in the women’s league with three wins and two losses.
