Meghan wins mums’ respect

THEY may not be royalty but these new additions are absolutely perfect in their parents’ eyes.

The Gold Coast’s newest mums celebrated the arrival of the royal baby yesterday as they adjusted to their own new role as parents.

Mums in the maternity ward of Gold Coast Private Hospital marked the occasion with a British-inspired high tea during the afternoon.

At least 26 Gold Coast and Tweed babies will share their birthday with the royal bub.

On May 6, 18 babies were born at Gold Coast University Hospital, two at Gold Coast Private Hospital and two at Pindara Private Hospital.

Four babies were born at The Tweed Hospital that day.

Among the new mums at Gold Coast University Hospital, Tamara Edwards, from Pacific Pines, said she supported Harry and Meghan’s decision to wait before sharing their baby with the world.

“I think it’s great they are holding off on sharing for a couple of days, you just want to be in a bubble with your new baby,” she said.

“We haven’t even shared photos online yet,” she said.

“In that moment when you get handed your baby you finally understand how much your parents love you.

“I couldn’t predict how powerfully I would feel about her. We are besotted with her and I’m sure (the Royals) would feel the same about theirs.”

The decision to delay announcing the royal name also got the nod from Southport’s Zara Howard, who waited to see her daughter Ava before finally deciding on a name.

“We knew we were having a girl and we had a few names picked but we didn’t decide until we met her,” Mrs Howard said.

And while the maternity wing may not be Windsor Castle, it does have many of the royal perks with the new mums grateful for the suite of extra help.

“We get around the clock care, they cook for us, do the washing ... it’s so good, the staff have been amazing,” Mrs Howard said.

Mermaid Waters’ mum Alana Radford has needed a little extra help than most.

She was expecting to give birth after the royals, with her son Reef not due until next month.

But the impatient baby arrived a few weeks early, and finally left his incubator on Thursday.
