Gold Coast leads way in QAFL rep squad

- TOM BOSWELL

GOLD Coast players make up over half the squad selected for the QAFL representative match against the Adelaide Football League.

Twenty-three players from Gold Coast QAFL clubs including reigning premiers Palm Beach Currumbin, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and Labrador have been included in the 42-man squad ahead of the interstate game, to be held on June 8 at Aspley’s home ground of Voxson Oval.

QAFL representative team head coach, Andy Lovell, was pleased with the mix of talent.

“QAFL rep footy has a long history and has helped develop some of our state’s best talent,” Lovell said. “We couldn’t be happier with the quality of players selected in our side.”

Brisbane Lions co-captain and Gold Coast junior, Dayne Zorko, recently reflected on his opportunity to represent the QAFL during his early career.

“Whenever you get the best talent all put together, there’s an aura among the team,” Zorko said. “There’s a sense that you don’t want to let them down. I think it’s great for the game, these sorts of initiatives.”

The final team for the representative game will be decided in a fortnight.
