WINNERS

The Candy Man (Race 5)

The Candy Man was a class above and made it back-to-back wins over the 1800m at the Gold Coast. The Candy Man was the $1.50 favourite and lapped up the heavy track conditions to take his winning sequence to six.

•Cruz De Vega (Race 7) Odds-on favourite Cruz De Vega made hard work of it before claiming a nose win in the Fillies and Mares Class 3 Handicap. Argie Bargie wasn’t going to surrender the lead but the favourite stuck her head out at the right time and got the judge’s decision.

•Tardis (Race 8) Punters ended the day on the right note when $3.40 favourite Tardis saluted. Jockey Jackson Murphy gave the Toby Edmondstrained mare a lovely run and presented her at the right time for a comfortable win.

LOSERS

Zoulou Dancer (Race 2) Ryan Plumb gave Zoulou Dancer every chance but the $2.80 favourite was unable to mow down the winner Bit Of Alright. Plumb gave the Gary Doughtytrained filly a cosy run and a clear run to the line but the winner was too good on the day.

Vanity (Race 3) Apprentice Jed Hodge had Vanity in the firing line but the filly couldn’t hold out Jete, who went on to down the favourite by a head on the line.

Poet’s Landing (Race 6) Frontrunner Temujin’s Rule handled the heavy track to perfection and held out the odds-on favourite Poet’s Landing in the run down the straight. Poet’s Landing had every chance but Temujin’s Rule held Poet’s Landing safely.

NEXT TIME

Argie Bargie (Race 7)

Argie Bargie was tackling the 1400m first up and after doing it tough outside the leader, the Kirs Lees-trained mare fought her heart out down the straight before going down narrowly to favourite Cruz De Vega. Argie Bargie will strip fitter next time and won’t be very long out of the winner’s circle.
