KEEP IT ON THE GC

- EMILY HALLORAN

THERE is only one place for TV’s night of nights, and that’s the Gold Coast, say a slew of stars from the small screen who were in the city yesterday as the nominees for this year’s TV Week Logies were revealed.

SOME of the biggest names in Australian TV want the TV Week Logies to stay on the Gold Coast because the city’s glitz, glamour and Meter Maid beach culture is a perfect fit.

The 2019 Logie award winners will be revealed next month in a celebrity-studded ceremony at The Star Gold Coast in Broadbeach, as it was last year.

This will be TV Week’s 61st year of the Logies, with the Gold Coast locked in to host the awards until 2021, but after that it will be up for grabs again.

Previously it was at The Crown in Melbourne.

But Studio Ten’s Sarah Harris and Nine’s Today Show host Richard Wilkins – who likened the Logies awards statue to a Gold Coast Meter Maid – told the Bulletin they want to keep the event on the Gold Coast.

Harris, a former Brisbane resident, said she wasn’t keen on it being moved from the Gold Coast. “I’m a Queensland girl at heart … I love the Gold Coast,” she said.

“The warm weather makes for more of a party. It’s a chance to come up and enjoy the gorgeous weather, cut loose and have a bit of fun.

“There is something glamorous about the Gold Coast … (from) the highrises (to the) Meter Maids.”

Wilkins reminisced on the celebrations last year and referred to the event being held on the Coast as its “spiritual home”.

“The Logies was always great at The Crown (in Melbourne) but we had a lovely time last year,” he said. “I think coming to the Gold Coast has given the Logies a new feel. Plus, we all love coming here. It’s our favourite destination, so to be able to come here for work is a bonus, especially when it’s this warm in the middle of winter.”

Yesterday The Star Gold Coast was buzzing with excitement as dozens of TV stars found out who had made the cut for this year’s Logie nominations.

Cameron Merchant, Jules Robinson and Heidi Latcham from Married At First Sight, nominated for Best Reality TV Show, arrived together.

City of Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Donna Gates and Gaven State MP Meaghan Scanlon were also there.

Ms Gates said last year’s Logies showed off what the Gold Coast has to offer.

“We have incredible memories from last year,” she said.

“Film and production has grown so much during the past 12 months. We greatly value our relationship with

TV Week Logies.”
