Spit plan is a winner, just a shame about the timing

-

THE Spit Master Plan has finally been released and after reading its details I am glad to see that the interests of the silent majority have been listened to, in part.

It is also great to see that Sea World is joining in on this change by expanding and making their world class attraction even more inviting to us and tourists.

As a member of the silent majority there are things in the plan that I found to be of benefit to all Gold Coasters and the advancement of the city into the future.

The widening of Seaworld Drive and connecting roads is of course undoubtedly something we can all look forward to, the expansion of boating facilities at Muriel Henchman Park will please every boatie who uses the Broadwater and the inclusion of fishing platforms at Doug Jennings park will make those of us who fish the rocks very happy.

The knowledge that the trawler fleet is safe and we shall have better roads and better parking to allow us to enjoy what is locally caught is certainly a weight off every one’s mind.

The inclusion of more shade trees, some of the disgusting scrub removed and replaced with properly managed vegetation areas and a raised timber walkway where the chances of stepping in dog droppings or coming across a rat or snake are reduced is encouraging and may attract others to the area.

And the location of a light rail terminal across from Sea World is a great step to ensure that all can travel to the new hubs without impacting on the roads as well as increasing the possibility of the CST being a success is yet another win for us.

Of course we are all expecting complaints by SOSA, SOB, MBA, Gecko and Wildlife Qld, however, I do not believe that any complaint they put forward now can be taken seriously as they were heavily involved in the process to create this plan and although some may say we will not accept this, all their cries will do will further make the majority of us believe that they are acting solely out of self interest and not in the public’s interest.

I could say well done to the government but the timing of this announcement when it could have been released prior to the election along with the Adani statements recently simply reek of a stunt to try and shore up their support on the Gold Coast.

Sorry Minister Dick, good plan but bad timing. RON NIGHTINGALE, BIGGERA WATERS
