APOLLO CUP RUN CONTINUES:

- ELIZA REILLY eliza/reilly@news.com.au

going into halftime one goal down, Surfers Paradise coach Alex Morrison says he had no doubt his side could progress through to Round 7 of the FFA cup.

Coming up against NPL side Moreton Bay United on Friday night, Apollo came out firing in the second half, piling on three goals at Lex Bell Oval.

“I was confident in the boys,” Morrison said. “There was only one goal in it and I’d seen glimpses in the first half.

“We have a strong team who have that will to win.”

Declan Smith gave the Jets the lead just before halftime from a corner.

“They really came at us in the first half but we held our position and changed a few things at halftime,” Morrison said.

Surfers equalised through Robbie Smith at the 70th minute before Calvin McCallion gave the home side the lead.

Striker Teddy Watson put it beyond doubt in the final minutes of the game.

After becoming the first team to beat Burleigh in the Gold Coast Premier League this month, Morrison believes his side have hit a rich vein of form as they look towards their next local fixture at home to Palm Beach on Sunday.

“The NPL set the standard so hopefully we can take our form back into the local league,” he said.

The Gold Coast Knights are also through to Round 7 of the Cip after beating fellow NPL team Peninsula Power 4-2 in extra time on Friday night.

Burleigh Heads’ run came to an end with a 3-2 loss to QPL leaders Logan Lightning at Pizzey Park on Saturday.

Palm Beach travel to Olympic at 8pm tonight, while Coomera play away to Holland Park at 8pm on Tuesday.
