AN ETERNAL LOVE PROCLAIMED
Kate Armon and Craig Smith met three years ago at Javeenbah Theatre, it was “love at first sight”.
And seeing as though their love began on the stage, it only seemed fitting for the proposal to take place there as well.
Breaking with tradition, Ms Armon concocted the plan some months ago to propose to Craig on stage in the presence of his favourite band The Proclaimers.
She wrote to the band and QPAC to arrange the surprise proposal at their Brisbane concert.
The moment came together perfectly when singer Craig Reid came on stage with a piece of paper and announced “this one is for Kate Armon, who has a question for Craig” before the couple both burst into tears of joy and the crowd cheered.
“He honestly didn’t suspect a thing,” she said.
“I hadn’t told a single person.
“When they said my name he gave me a double look then when they said his name he said “what have you done?”
“The music started and he dissolved into tears.
“I didn’t get to even say the words ‘Will you marry me’. He said ‘yes’ straight away.
“Then we hugged for the whole song, it was incredibly romantic.
“The world kind of stopped and it was just me and Craig.
“He hasn’t stopped talking about it.”
Little did Kate know, but Craig had already planned to propose to her on July 7.
“Craig is a beautiful man,” she said. “He hasn’t just agreed to marry me but be a dad to my two little girls who adore him.
“He is such a good Dad to his own two grown up boys and now my girls.”
The Proclaimers are Craig’s favourite band.
“When his dad died he played one of their songs at his funeral,” Ms Armon said.
“I wanted to give him a realWHEN ly wonderful memory attached to their music.”
The newly-engaged couple got to meet The Proclaimers, Scottish twins Charlie and Craig Reid, afterwards. Ms Armon said they were “genuinely excited for us and happy to be a part of it”.
The couple plan to get married next year where Ms Armon will walk down the aisle to – you guessed it – 500 Miles by The Proclaimers.
