HAT TRICK FOR FASHIONS AT THE POLO
IT’LL be all about the outfit when radio personality Margaux Parker makes her polo debut at Saturday’s McLaren Gold Coast Polo by the Sea.
“I’ve been to the races many times, but I know dressing for the polo is very different,” she said.
“I’ll be wearing a floaty, blue and white La Maison Talulah dress with a navy wool hat and navy suede shoes and I think I’ve got the brief nailed. The polo is strictly no fascinators – no ostriches sticking out of anybody’s head.
“It’s more about a felt or woollen hat, a beautiful headscarf, or turbans are really on-trend at the moment.
“You could wear a long ribbon in a low ponytail or just a really fabulous pair of sunglasses.”
Effortless elegance is the brief for Fashions on the Field judge Judy Brine.
“The weather is cooler, so a jacket over a long, floaty maxi-dress or a pant-suit is ideal,” she said.
“Add boots or shoes with a chunky heel, a hat (ideally felt) and sunglasses. Think Ralph Lauren.
“Cocktail-style dresses are not in keeping with the casual chic style of polo.
“For men, brogues or loafers with a blazer and colourful pocket square is perfect.”
While the polo ponies are set to tear up the turf, following their lead in killer heels is a faux pas.
“That was a tricky one as I don’t own wedges or espadrilles – I’m a thongs or stilettos girl – but I found these Stuart Weitzman chunky stacked heels with pearls down the back,” Parker said. “They’ll be comfortable all day.”
And staying power is the biggest selling point for Parker, who will back it up by joining GoldFM The Rush Hour co-host Luke Bradnam to MC The Gold Coast Fundraising Ball at RACV Royal Pines Resort later that night.
