Big changes for mini-city
THE height of a $1.3 billion luxury mini-city planned for a major Gold Coast development site is going up.
Developer Sunland has filed revised plans for its four-tower The Lanes residences project, planned for a Clear Island Waters site ahead of its release to the market in coming months.
According to the new plans, the height of the towers will slightly increase by around half a metre.
While they will still be classified as two 10 and 12storey buildings, the height increase means the buildings will legally be a level taller.
It also means the project will go before councillors for approval later this year.
The number of units will also increase from 298 to 310 because an extra six units each will be added to the 13storey towers.
There will now be a total of 642 bedrooms in the towers which, along with already approved buildings and completed townhouses, mean there will ultimately be 1262 bedrooms across the precinct.
Plans for four stand-alone commercial buildings have been scrapped while the amphitheatre which will be placed along Lake Unity will be repositioned.
The developer announced the $250 million four-tower boutique residential project in December last year as the latest stage of the mega development on the corner of Bermuda St and Hooker Boulevard.
It will sit alongside the $200 million Lanes Shopping Centre and Lakes residential precinct.
The shopping centre project will be built on six hectares and feature 80 shops – cafes, restaurants, fresh food hall, health and wellbeing services and a boutique cinemas – across 17,000sq m.
The news of the changes comes just days after the latest piece of the project was announced.
A development application was made last week for a giant childcare centre.
The Sunkids childcare centre, a 4460 sqm circular building, is targeted for a site on the corner of Hooker and Lakeview boulevards and will offer space for 162 children across nine rooms.
