French flavour on spectacular 10-night cruise
AUSTRALIANS can see Quebec’s spectacular Perce Rock, spot blue whales and experience French Canadian culture next June, on an 10night expedition cruise through Canada’s Gulf of St Lawrence.
The cruise is offered by Adventure Canada and Australian small ship specialist Cruise Traveller.
Voted one of National Geographic’s Best Tours of North America, the cruise explores three of Canada’s provinces as well as the island of SaintPierre, which remains an overseas territory of France.
Guests will travel on the 198-passenger Ocean Endeavour, which boasts multiple lounges, 20 Zodiacs and a topdeck observation room.
The journey begins with a free night’s accommodation in Quebec, the former capital of New France, which retains a strong European influence in its architecture, cuisine and culture.
From there, guests will travel by coach to the charming community of Tadoussac, where guests will board the Ocean Endeavour and set sail east towards Newfoundland.
Highlights of the cruise include Saguenay Fjord – where saltwater meets freshwater and fin, minke, blue and beluga whales can be found especially during spring, the aweinspiring Perce Rock – a huge natural arch which rises out of the waters, and Prince Edward Island – Canada’s smallest province, with its rolling hills, wooded glades and ocean coves made famous by children’s novel Anne of Green Gables.
The cruise will also take guests to Bonaventure Island – where hundreds of seabirds breed, and the Magdalen Islands – with their dramatic red sandstone cliffs as well as traditional handicrafts, seafood, local wines and beers.
From music and dancing to stories and cuisine, the Gulf of St Lawrence’s French heritage is present throughout the journey, with optional French programming available on board, opportunities to learn songs and stories unique to French Canada, and visiting the island of Saint-Pierre.
Located at the end of the cruise just off the coast of Newfoundland, Saint-Pierre remains a French overseas territory, the last of France’s colonial presence in North America. With its bright colourful buildings and winding narrow streets, the town offers French shopping, bakeries, fine wine and cheeses, quirky cafes and fine dining.
Departing June 5, 2020, the 11-night cruise package is available from $7795 per person, twin-share, which includes a saving of $1251 if booked by October 31, 2019.
For a limited time, solo guests will pay no single supplement on selected categories, subject to availability.
For guests treating themselves to a Junior Suite, fares are from $17,330 per person, twin-share, which includes a saving of $4803 per person or $9607 per couple, if booked by October 31, 2019.
The package includes the 10-night expedition cruise, bonus night’s accommodation in Quebec, all shipboard meals, sightseeing and Zodiac excursions.
