Gold Coast nights about to get cooler

- TALISA ELEY tali.eley@news.com.au

THE GOLD Coast was bathed in sunshine yesterday, with locals and tourists alike soaking up the rays on offer.

It is no wonder the Coast was lapping up the change, with winter so far delivering more rainy days than clear ones for the city in 2019.

Coolangatta has recorded 167mm of rain across 22 days, while at the Gold Coast Seaway it has so far rained for 19 days of the season, collecting a total of 122.8mm.

There isn’t a drop of rain in sight for today though as the temperature pushes towards 23C. But meteorologists have warned the chilly nights are about to set in, with overnight temperatures in parts of the Gold Coast expected to plummet as low as 8C by Monday.

Kimba Wong from the Bureau of Meteorology said night time conditions were slightly below average.

“We’ve had a couple of warm nights and a few wet days (lately) but it’s going to clear up and get a little bit cooler overnight,” she said.

“During the day we’ll get up to average temperatures of 23C to 24C but minimum temperatures will drop overnight to about 10C by the end of the week … at Coolangatta the average minimum temperature for July is 10C, for the Seaway it’s 12C so it’s slightly cooler than average.

“We’re getting some slightly cooler and drier conditions coming through with some westerly winds.”
