Business boost for north

New hub proposed at Helensvale centre

A GIANT seven-storey business hub will be built as part of a multi-million expansion of one of the northern Gold Coast’s best-known shopping centres.

Scentre Group, the Australian wing of Westfield, wants to build the complex as the latest expansion of the Helensvale Town Centre site.

It will be built on the southeastern side of the shopping centre near Helensvale Railway Station.

Stewart White, Scentre Group’s development and asset management, said the project would boost the city’s booming business community.

“We have submitted a development application that will allow for the delivery of a new and exciting commercial precinct at Westfield Helensvale,” he said.

“The delivery of commercial premises will provide space for the growing Gold Coast business community and expand the role of Westfield Helensvale as a living centre.”

The development will feature:

● A “considerable” public plaza and a pedestrian link from the site to the Westfield Helensvale shopping centre.

● Three retail shops and two restaurants.

● More than 8000sq m of office space.

● A 452sq m function centre.

● 280 carparks. According to documents filed yesterday with the Gold Coast City Council, the office space has been “designed to be flexible and suit a range of tenant sizes with the potential for segmented design across all levels”.

Area councillor William Owen-Jones welcomed the project.

‘This is a positive thing for the area because it gives us A-grade office space next to the heavy rail,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“This is one of the first Agrade buildings proposed since Robina’s The Rocket was finished a decade ago.”
