DOGGED YOUNG GUN BUILDS UP HIS PET PROJECT

- KATE PARASKEVOS WITH KATE PARASKEVOS

WHILE other kids were riding bikes and hanging with mates over the school holidays, Camryn Binding was working hard growing his home business.

The 14-year-old from Studio Village, Oxenford started his animal minding business, Camryn’s Pet Care, when he was just 11 years old.

“I said to Mum I wanted a job to make some money but I was too young so I made my own job,” he said.

“At first I just had a couple of jobs like watering gardens while people were on holidays and we had a few feedings like chickens and guinea pigs, and within a couple of months I was getting busier. Now, after three years, I’m pretty busy.”

Camryn has small dogs stay at his home while their owners are away, and visits larger dogs and other animals to feed and play with them.

He said it was important all pets in his care were treated like family.

“I have about 30 regular clients that come and stay anywhere from a weekend to three to four weeks,” he said. “I like repeat clients because I get to know each dog’s personality.”

And Camryn is not squandering his hard-earned cash.

“I have to put half of everything I earn into my savings for my car and I usually use the other half for things I really want, like my new phone.”

Mum Mylee Binding, 39, said she was very proud of her son and his determination.

“As a single mother, I have always taught him that nobody will hand you anything in life for free, he has always seen me go to work, come home, get everything done, and I guess ... he has learned to work for what he wants,” she said.
