Glitter Strip bar revamp

THE Surfers Paradise Beer Garden will be transformed into a beachy, cabana-style nightspot when it reopens next month after a multimillion-dollar revamp.

The popular spot on Cavill Ave has been gutted for a redevelopment, first revealed last year by the Bulletin.

Venue manager Kiara De Vere said it was a huge change. “There’s been a lot of questions and it has been hard being closed but we’ve been really busy and we’re really excited,” she said.

“From what it was when we closed in March it’s an incredible change. The whole venue has a retractable roof and the only reason that will be closed is if it’s raining.”

The venue will offer spirits sourced from city distilleries for the extensive cocktail menu.

Ms De Vere said while it would be “very Surfers Paradise” with lawn games and on-trend styling, it would stay a sports bar at heart.

“It’s definitely a bloke’s dream. There’ll be 18 television screens airing sports, and if you can’t see your sport from your table we have tablets that can go on the tables,” she said.

‘We’ve done a lot of research to what makes the best sports bar and the best beer garden.”

There are no immediate plans to host bands but Ms De Vere said there will still be live music most nights.

“Beer Garden was an institution for live music so we’re still absolutely in there, we’re supporting it five days a week with acoustic music and we'll have some big names, we may have bands in the future, but right now that’s where we’re heading,” she said.
