Addressing damage of bad reviews

- ALISTER THOMSON

SERIAL entrepreneur Nick Bell believes he has the solution to dodgy online reviews that can devastate small business owners.

Mr Bell, who is one of the speakers at today’s key Gold Coast Business Week event at The Star Gold Coast, said his new venture, called Removify, aims to address the damage caused to small business owners by defamatory or fake reviews.

“What we do is present a case to the publisher, whether that is Google or Facebook or someone else, outlining why the post needs to be removed,” he said.

“The publisher then investigates and determines whether the review needs to be removed or not.”

Mr Bell said there is demand for an agency businesses can turn to other than lawyers when they find damaging reviews. He said the business knows the platforms’ review policies and therefore knows what counts as a breach.

“A review should be a description of a customer’s experience. A one word comment like ‘scam’ – that is not outlining an experience it is just a one-word comment,” he said.

He said the business has 2000 customers after its launch three months ago.

Mr Bell previously sold his digital marketing business WME Group for $39 million in 2016.

More than 200 business people are due to attend Gold Coast Way Ahead today.

Shark Tank stars Janine Allis, Glen Richards and Steve Baxter will feature on a guest panel to be hosted by Jack Corbett, of ISR Training.

Mr Bell is on the panel for the third session of the day called “Riding the wave: business success & the new economy”.
